Understanding and Awareness

Lenford Murray

Born in the 80s, I grew up receiving a lot of negative attention from non-Black people. When I was surrounded by other Black people I always felt welcomed. I also noticed that Black people always welcome people of other races as a part of their own family. As I matured into a teenager, I was always nervous to leave my house due to the fact I was constantly being harassed. I thought things would have changed due to the no carding policy, but I was still getting looked down upon by others. Now as a Black man I feel misconstrued and manipulated by others, but strong hearted due to my knowledge of self.
